Expression of Interest: Senior Embedded Electronics Engineer (Wearables)
Sentient Shield is currently accepting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for this role to build our talent pipeline for upcoming defense contract phases. We are not actively hiring for an immediate start but welcome qualified candidates to submit their credentials for future consideration.
About Sentient Shield
Sentient Shield was born from a singular goal: to ensure that those who go into harm's way return home stronger. By combining Humanics-focused engineering with next-generation material science, we are empowering the modern soldier to move faster, stay longer, and survive the unsurvivable.
Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Embedded Electronics Engineer to architect and build the electronic central nervous system of our soft exoskeleton. You will design ultra-reliable, low-power, and ruggedized printed circuit boards (PCBs) that handle high-speed sensor aggregation, battery management, and motor drive communication. Your hardware must survive extreme environmental conditions while remaining lightweight and flexible enough for tactical deployment.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Architecture: Architect the complete electrical system, including power distribution, high-speed microcontrollers, sensor buses, and communication protocols.
PCB Design & Layout: Lead schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout (using Altium Designer or similar) optimized for size, weight, power (SWaP), and thermal dissipation.
Sensor Integration: Interface distributed wearable sensors including IMUs, flexible strain gauges, pressure sensors, and load cells.
Power Management: Design high-efficiency power delivery networks and smart battery management systems (BMS) for tactical, long-endurance operation.
On-Site Field Support: Diagnose, debug, and repair electrical hardware failures during active field testing on military installations.
EMI/EMC Compliance: Design circuits to pass rigorous military electromagnetic interference and environmental standards (MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810).
Required Qualifications
Citizenship & Compliance: Must be a U.S. citizen or a national of a NATO alliance country.
Regulatory Compliance: Must meet all criteria to maintain compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Mechatronics.
Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of hardware design experience, with specific exposure to wearable electronics, rugged robotics, or aerospace systems.
EDA Tools: Expert proficiency in Altium Designer, Eagle, or KiCad.
Hardware Protocols: Deep understanding of I2C, SPI, UART, CAN bus, and USB interfaces.
